About

In the 4th edition of Intersections, we expand the horizons of contemporary African art by bringing together artists who are challenging and redefining creative boundaries. This year, the exhibition delves into the intersections between tradition and innovation, with a special focus on themes such as culture, spirituality, resilience, and self-construction.

Throughout this exhibition, you will find works that explore issues deeply connected to African identity, but also project into the future by crossing multiple styles and techniques. Through a unique fusion of painting and sculpture, this edition offers a perspective on cultural evolution, highlighting the resilience of African heritage and the capacity of its artists to approach the present with an innovative vision.

Reflection of
Society and the Individual

Adilson Vieira Davi Dombele Josué Dombele Paulo Formiga

About this Room

We explore the depths of the human condition through works that reflect social and cultural realities. Each portrait captures not only the visual essence of the subject, but also a broader narrative that questions the individual's place in society. The artists represented here tackle themes such as identity, community connection and the role of cultural traditions in the modern world.

Fragmentation and
Reconstruction of Reality

Kabú

About this Room

Kabú's artworks present an innovative approach to the fragmentation of form and the multiplicity of perspectives. By exploring themes that cross time and the human condition, these pieces delve into the past, present and future, reflecting on universal issues such as death, the cycles of life and the complexity of social relationships. Through cubist fragmentation, the works reveal the hidden layers of human experience, highlighting the interconnection between dreams, prayer, love and life.

Exploring Consciousness and Identity

Jorge William Marques

About this Room

We explore the encounter between surrealism and figurativism by delving into the human unconscious and contemporary social dynamics. The works reveal the internal struggle for self-knowledge and freedom of expression, highlighting the power of the mind and constant social vigilance. Inspired by philosophical themes and spiritual transformation, the artists invite introspection and relaxation. “Banzelo” reminds us that sometimes life needs to be lived with simplicity and acceptance, without looking for meaning in everything.

Raw Emotion and
The Expressiveness of Color

Badiatu David

About this Room

Neo Expressionism emerges as an emotional response to the world, where personal experiences are translated rawly and intensely onto the canvas. Each piece challenges the viewer to feel, rather than simply observe. Through distorted figures, the artist evokes feelings of pain, resilience, love and hope. This movement, with its bold colors and exaggerated shapes, aims to break with the conventional by bringing subjectivity and personal experience to the center of artistic creation.

Vibrant Colors and
Everyday Narratives

Pedro Masisa

About this Room

Pop Art is explored here with intense colors and everyday symbols. One work depicts a child's natural imitation of a parrot, highlighting learning by repetition. The other celebrates the ancestral use of the head as a cultural symbol, present in rituals and festivities. Both use Pop Art's characteristic aesthetic to transform the ordinary into something visually striking.

Cultural Heritage and
Human Relations

Virgílio Pinheiro

About this Room

We explore works that blend the abstract with cultural and emotional themes, which bring to light the complexities of identity, connection and the essence of the human experience. The artist draws on traditional symbols, family ties and collective emotions to create pieces that speak to the heart and mind, that push the boundaries of form and narrative in contemporary African art.
