Sebastião Coana

Sebastião Coana, a contemporary Mozambican artist born in 1987, is a versatile and creative talent known for his diverse range of artistic expressions. His work spans cultural installations, street art, and oil paintings, often characterized by vibrant colors and a deep connection to daily life.

Coana's artistic journey began at a young age when he first discovered his talent in 1995. His passion for art led him to join the youth art program at the National Museum of Arts in Maputo in 2000, where he further developed his skills and artistic vision.

After his formative years in Mozambique, Coana pursued higher education in art and beyond. He graduated from the School of Architecture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts of China in Beijing (CAFA) in 2012, demonstrating his commitment to honing his craft. Additionally, he earned a Master's degree in International Finance from the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing, showcasing his versatility and interest in finance.

Coana's artistic creations, including paintings and street murals, have garnered attention and recognition both in Mozambique and internationally. His works can be found in various public and private collections, including the National Museum of Art in Mozambique. His art has also traveled to over 25 countries, including China, the United States, South Africa, and Finland, among others.

What sets Coana apart is not only his artistic talent but also his commitment to making a positive impact on his community. He allocates a portion of his income from his art to support the reconstruction and well-being of the community where he was born, showcasing his dedication to reducing the suffering of local residents.

Some of his notable public art projects include the "History of Matola," a mural art spanning over 50 meters on the newly constructed municipal building in Matola, Mozambique. He also transformed an area of downtown Maputo City known for its challenges into a vibrant space of hope and empowerment through mural art.

Sebastião Coana's art transcends boundaries, bringing together culture, community, and creativity to inspire positive change and make a lasting impact on society.
