Mumpasi Meso

Mumpasi Meso (b. 1984, Mbanza Congo, Zaire – now Democratic Republic of Congo) is a Congolese visual artist known for his expressive mosaic-style paintings that explore the universal values of humanity, spiritual consciousness, and emotional connection. Son of the artist Mumpasi Za Meso, he learned to paint mosaic-like compositions in stone from an early age, forging a deeply personal and technically rich foundation for his work.

In 2009, he graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, DR Congo. Now based in Luanda, Angola, Mumpasi gained critical acclaim for his 2014 solo exhibition, Impressionist Mosaic, held at the Tamar Golan Gallery. His distinctive language — a rhythmic orchestration of colour, shape, and symbolism — focuses primarily on portraiture and human figures, evoking introspective narratives and spiritual connection with the environment.

In 2015, he was featured in A Face da Arte Angolana Contemporânea, a landmark publication by Fundação Arte e Cultura, showcasing major contemporary Angolan artists. In 2016, he was selected for the 5th edition of JAANGO Nacional, Angola’s national programme for emerging artists.

Mumpasi’s work has been exhibited internationally in Italy, Spain, Brazil, and the Netherlands, and in 2018 he received the Best International Painter Award at the VIII International Salon of Plastic Arts, Cia Arte Cultura in São Paulo, Brazil.

Interpreting human consciousness at every moment, Mumpasi Meso creates work that is vibrant, layered, and spiritually charged — an invitation to reconnect with the values that make us human.
