Aimable Mugabo

Aimable Mugabo (b. 1997, Kigali, Rwanda) is a Rwandan contemporary artist based in Poland, whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, paper craft, and sustainable design. With a distinctive focus on texture, form, and finish, his work blends abstract expression with narrative depth — often invoking memory, nostalgia, and the beauty of imperfection.

Mugabo’s art challenges the boundaries of perception. Rather than replicating reality, he constructs visual illusions that invite viewers into their own inner landscapes. Through a vibrant language of colour and shape, he explores the tension between what is seen and what is felt.

Committed to eco-conscious practices, Mugabo incorporates recycled materials, such as newspapers, into his handmade compositions — merging artistic vision with environmental responsibility. His tactile pieces reflect both craftsmanship and innovation, positioning him within a growing movement of sustainable African artists working globally.

His first solo exhibition took place in 2018, marking a pivotal step in his artistic evolution. Since then, he has continued to expand his reach through community-based art education, leading workshops in Toruń in partnership with institutions like Dom Kultury and the EMIC Foundation. He actively engages with diverse audiences — including children, schools, and the visually impaired — and has illustrated literary works such as Ant Mur and Other Ants.

Aimable Mugabo’s work embodies a commitment to creativity, care for the planet, and cultural dialogue, establishing him as a rising voice in African contemporary art with global relevance.
