Dela Quarshie Contemporary Figurative Paintings

Expressive Fine Art Exploring Memory and Culture

Colour, Emotion and Identity in Contemporary Painting

"Working with a refined mastery of acrylic and oil on canvas, Dela’s compositions are both precise and emotive. His visual language is rich with enclosed shapes, gemstone-like colour palettes, and intricately rendered garments — each detail evoking memory, presence, and transformation. These works shimmer not only in surface but in meaning, offering glimpses into interior worlds."

Dela Quarshie

Dela Quarshie (b. 1993, Ghana) is a contemporary Ghanaian artist whose practice explores the delicate intersections between emotional memory, cultural identity, and visual influence. His work invites reflection on how we form relationships, how we carry feelings, and how both personal and external forces leave marks on who we become.

Dela’s artistic journey began in childhood through the tactile intimacy of body art and face painting — early expressions where the body became a canvas and emotion was translated into colour, gesture, and form. These beginnings set the foundation for a lifelong inquiry into the invisible connections between people, and how memory and identity are shaped in silence.

He earned a Higher National Diploma in Commercial Art Painting from Takoradi Technical University, where he also pursued studies in Animation and Illustration. His technical background informs a practice that is both poetic and precise, combining traditional painting methods with contemporary aesthetics.

Dela Quarshie’s works have been exhibited in notable group exhibitions across Ghana, Nigeria, and France, including:

Paint-Sculpt Art Jury

American Embassy Annual Art Exhibition

Ogirikan Art Gallery, Lagos

Institute of Museum Ghana

Médicis Gallery, Paris

Gallery Soview, Accra

Through colour layering and subtle figuration, his paintings become emotional maps, capturing what is often left unsaid — the residue of feeling, the imprint of contact, the influence of culture.

As a Ghanaian visual artist committed to exploring contemporary experience through a deeply personal lens, Dela Quarshie continues to build a compelling visual language rooted in connection, empathy, and the memory of being seen.
